Ealing food experts look at potential sugar alternatives
EALING food experts from the University of West London (UWL) have joined ethical sugar company, Bonraw to help rethink how we sweeten our foods.
In its latest partnership for the University's West London Food Innovation Centre (WLFIC), experts tested sustainable packaging for a new range of natural and ethically sourced sugars, running shelf life testing to help get new products into shops across the country.
Launched to promote the benefits of more natural foods, Bonraw brings healthy alternatives to people's tables, offering a new way to enjoy white, brown and baking sugars.
Catherine Wall, Research and Development Specialist at WLFIC, said: "Combining science and culinary expertise we use specialist facilities to turn concepts into market-ready products and are pleased to be able to support Bonraw bring natural and ethically produced sugars to the market as we continue our collaboration to support the company's new ideas."
Bonraw was launched in 2018 by founders Elpida Gailani and Tamas Fuzer.
CEO Elpida Gailani, who spent several years working in the sugar industry before turning her attention to natural alternatives, said: "Humans are naturally drawn to sweet tasting food and drinks but they are equally concerned about foods, and when asked, will tell you they prefer clean and simple products so Bonraw's mission is to deliver all natural sweet without compromise.
"The WLFIC helped considerably with testing and gave us confidence in what we were creating when we were only starting out with an idea.
"We are now looking to developing more products and are excited to continue to work with the food team and see what's next."
