AN Ealing businesswoman has been recognised for the positive impact she has had on children during the pandemic.
Jemma Bird is the franchise owner of Little Voices in Ealing and Kew Bridge and has recently accepted the Marie Blount award for Creativity, Fun and Happiness.
With mental health a concern for many due to the pandemic, Jemma and her tutors were quick to adapt their lessons to support pupils and parents.
Little Voices lessons provided fun and entertainment, while maintaining routine and giving pupils the opportunity to socialise and see their friends.
This is the second national award Jemma has received but believes this is the most important one.
Jemma said: "At the beginning of the pandemic I was so concerned for my pupils and children across the country and how it must feel, as a child, to be told that you can't go to school, see your friends or grandparents.
"One thing I was certain of, was how much our pupils love to attend Little Voices and also love to sing.
"If we could provide children with something exciting to look forward to each week then that was my aim and motivation.
"Singing is amazing for lifting the spirits and if I could help in any way possible, I wanted to do that."
Jemma and her tutors - Kat and Chloe - have offered many free virtual musical adventures, friends catch ups and workshops for schools, in addition to their weekly lessons.
These have been attended by many children in the local community and have given parents a little time to answer emails or have a well-deserved break after home educating.
Jemma said: "We have been overwhelmed by the feedback and the support from parents who have said that our lessons and workshops are a godsend.
"I realised we were helping parents and pupils in ways that I never knew were possible."
