A NEW boxing gym called West London Boxing Academy has been preparing to open in Hanwell later this month.
The boxing academy will officially open its doors on June 24 and is located at Unit 5, Waterside Trading Centre.
Its founders are three boxing enthusiasts called Danny Maclaren, Dean Martin and Alan Thoroughgood.
From this weekend (June 5-6) the academy will offer a month of free pre-booked classes for those who have an interest in the sport.
They will run classes for both adults and kids, with some female-only classes too.
Once the academy opens there will be a gym on site with bikes, treadmills, rowing machines, along with a weights area too.
There will also be a limited number of spaces available for Boxercise and Box HIIT sessions, which are completely non-contact.
The academy also offers spaces for boxing 'fundamentals', intermediate and 'train 2 fight' classes, catering for all abilities and desires.
It will be open seven days a week and will be a pay-monthly membership gym.
Danny Maclaren, one of the academy's co-founders told Ealing Nub News: "The main reason for doing this is we want to use it as a way to bring through young talent, we will offer scholarship opportunities too for underprivileged kids in the area who can't afford it and we hope it can be a way to keep kids off the street and out of knife crime.
"We want to cater for everyone's needs and we want it to be family-friendly too, so a 60-year-old woman and 12-year-old boy both feel welcome.
"I work as boxing promoter and I meet so many women from all professions who want to get into boxing, but it's about women feeling comfortable so we want to give women that environment.
"It will also be very cheap for people because we want it to be an affordable luxury, it's £50 per month for three classes per week."
The gym will be opened by British boxer Chantelle Cameron and former Welsh boxer, Joe Calzaghe.
There will also be a stunt man called Bobby Holland Hampton attending on the opening day too.
Danny added: "We've had a great response from people so far and we are most excited about seeing the local talent, we've been inundated with children, and we want to create a social space, a mini community for people."
