EALING Farmers' Market has been running since 2001 and is coming up to its 20th anniversary.

It's part of a greater umbrella of farmers' markets under the jurisdiction of London Farmers' Markets, which consists of 18 markets throughout the Capital.

Cheryl Cohen, a spokesperson for London Farmers' Market told Nub News: "The reason we chose Ealing as a location nearly 20 years ago is because we wanted to provide locally raised, fresh food for local people.

"Ealing didn't have that previously, we were the first place in the area where people could buy directly from farmers."

Ealing Farmer's Market is located on Leeland Road and has on average around 20 stalls.

There are three different categories of producers at these stalls.

There are the primary producers who raise the animals and grow the plants; secondary producers who use primary producers' products and then create their own products, such as jam or soup, and the third type of producers are the bakers.

According to Cohen some of these producers have been present at the Market since the beginning, which is what makes it so special.

"Apart from the fact that we have producers that keep coming back, we also have produce that you'll never find in supermarkets, we have unusual and delightful varieties.

"An example is Pippins Apple Orchard in Essex, which grows apples that you can't find at big supermarkets."

Similarly to producers who have had their stalls since the Market's inception, some customers have also been going since 2001.

Cohen said: "I actually had a lady come up to me the other week saying how happy she is that we're still open even during lockdown, how much she loves coming here every Saturday to get fresh food.

"Over the course of these two decades the people of Ealing have taken us into their hearts and we're very grateful for that."

The Market is still open every Saturday from 9am to 1pm, with strict social distancing measures in place to make sure everyone can shop safely.

They urge shoppers to shop quickly and alone (if they can) and also wear face coverings in order to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
