JOB TITLE: Pest Control Officer

LOCATION: Ealing (West London)

PAY RATE: 18.04 paye / 23.70 umbrella (per hour)

START DATE: ASAP

DURATION/Hours: 3-month initial contract/ 35 hours a week (Mon-Fri, 9-5)

UK DRIVING LICSENCE REQUIRED

Role purpose:

  • The post holder will deliver a high-quality pest control service.
  • The post holder will carry out treatments to eradicate and control infestations of rodents, insects and other pests.
  • The post holder will carry out investigations of insect, rodent and other pest infestations.
  • The post holder will work to the highest standards of Health and Safety legislation and check that other Operatives are following safe working practices on site.
  • The post holder will coordinate multi-task pest control jobs.

Key accountabilities:

  • Investigate reports of rodent infestation, undertake detailed inspections to identify the source of infestation and decide upon action to be taken.
  • Carry out treatment to eradicate and control infestations of rodents, insects and other pests.
  • Lay bait in appropriates places, taking adequate precautions to prevent the contamination of food and water and access to the bait by children or domestic animals.
  • Re-inspect infested premises, top up consumed baits or change baits and/or baiting points until the infestation is cleared.
  • Note and report back on defects likely to contribute to re-infestation or, where lack of cooperation results in inadequate treatment, request action by the ERS Manager or Regulatory Services staff.
  • Investigate reports of insect infestation and carry out appropriate insecticidal treatment to clear such infestations.
  • Give advice to occupiers about appropriate measures to prevent re-infestation of insects.
  • Investigate and provide advice on the control of pests, such as foxes and squirrels, noting and reporting back any conditions requiring further action, as appropriate.
  • Ensure the safe handling and storage of chemicals and equipment, consistent with agreed Health and Safety procedures.
  • Carry out regular planned investigations of Council estates and report back on action to be taken on infestations, as appropriate.
  • Develop efficient and responsive working relationships with the ERS Manager, Schedulers, Call Handlers and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure that continuous professional development (CPD) is maintained and updated to meet service needs, including attending the regular toolbox talks.
  • Ensure compliance with all management processes and procedures, including Health & Safety and Diversity and Equality policy and the Freedom of Information and Data Protection Acts.

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Experience of providing pest control services.
  • Knowledge of pest control health and safety legislation and compliance, including occupational hazards and safety precautions, Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  • Experience of working with the public and providing high quality customer service
  • Ability to investigate complaints of rodent and insect infestation and to carry out appropriate treatment, in a safe manner in order to eliminate any infestation found.
  • Ability to keep good records of all works carried out on site.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces e.g., lofts.
  • Ability to drive a light goods vehicle and possess full driving licence.
  • Able to use handheld PDA devices.
  • Royal society of Health certificate in Pest Control or BPCA certificate Part 1 or BPCA/RSPH (level 2) certificate in pest control.
