Ealing Wildlife Group has welcomed the arrival of 10 little owlet chicks, which were born in the Group's urban area as a result of a successful owl conservation project.

The project began in 2018 when Ealing Wildlife Group received funding from Tesco's Bags of Help scheme for the 'Help an Ealing Owl' project.

Sean McCormack, founder of Ealing Wildlife Group told Ealing Nub News: "We chose the owl project because they're an endearing and fascinating species and the people love them.

"It improves the habitat for lots of other species too because owls are at the top of the food chain.

"Public engagement is also important for us in order to educate people on the nature in their area, because when people are educated it'll help to protect the species in future."

The park's rangers used trail cameras to monitor the progress of the owls during the spring and summer period and will now continue to monitor them on a yearly basis.

McCormack added: "They're wild animals, so we will monitor them every year and link that back to the local landscapes, we will see them grow upwards in ten years.

"What I enjoy most about the project is I get a sense of pride and joy from seeing the wildlife in an urban area, and the people get a lot of joy from it too in because we live in an urban part of the city, it's unexpected so it's really rewarding."
