Hounslow Council has green lit plans from Lidl to open its first store in Brentford, further expanding its presence in London.

This comes as the German supermarket giant announced yesterday (14 October) that it began construction work for its new West Ealing store.

The new store will provide Brentford residents with access to Lidl's "high-quality, best value produce, increasing choice for local shoppers".

With a proposed sales area of 1,439m2, it will feature the supermarket's award-winning bakery, much loved Middle of Lidl, as well as customer toilets with baby changing facilities and ample parking for cars and bicycles.

Lidl say the plans represent a multi-million-pound investment and a boost for the local economy, creating up to 40 new jobs.

Following the latest pay rise, new colleagues will receive one of the highest rates of pay in the sector, according the company.

Lidl believes unlike many traditional supermarket convenience stores, it continues to offer the same low prices across the country.

A recent report by Which? revealed that shoppers in convenience stores, particularly in London, often pay significantly more for the same items compared to larger stores.

Lidl GB's Regional Head of Property, Grant Shulton, commented: "We're delighted to have secured planning approval from Hounslow Council for our first store in Brentford.

"Demand for Lidl products continues to rise in the capital, which is why we're committed to making sure that everyone, no matter where they live, has access to high-quality food at the best value.

"We look forward to keeping the community updated as we progress with our plans."

As Lidl GB celebrates its 30th anniversary, its combination of quality and value continues to attract shoppers nationwide.

Last year, it was recognised as the third-largest supermarket in the capital and has also been named the fastest-growing bricks-and-mortar supermarket for 14 consecutive months.

Lidl say it remains focused on expanding its footprint and has revealed a wish list of locations for new stores, from Camden to Clapham and Shoreditch to Notting Hill.
