A NEW vaccination centre has opened in Ealing as part of the fight against coronavirus.

The new centre opened on Tuesday, February 2 at CP House on Uxbridge Road.

This will add to the centres already open at Ealing Town Hall and the Dominion Centre in Southall and will help to add to the number of people who can be vaccinated in the borough each week.

People are being offered the vaccination in order of priority group, with the over 80s and front-line service workers receiving the vaccine first.

This comes as Downing Street recently confirmed that all over 50s are to be offered the vaccine by May.

Residents are reminded that they do not need to do anything, they will be contacted by their GP when their vaccine is ready.

Dharsh Fernando is a care worker in Ealing and recently got his vaccine locally.

He said: "I wanted to get it done and the reasons are, number one, to keep my family safe.

"I've got two young ones and my daughter's got potential respiratory issues.

"And then, secondly, to also keep my colleagues that I work with safe, to keep myself safe, and to reduce any effects of getting COVID-19 should I contract it.

"But, also – which is really important for us at work in the work that we do – is to keep our customers safe.

"A lot of the customers that we do look after have complex health issues.

"I would 100% encourage everyone to get the vaccine.

Ealing Council leader Julian Bell said: "I am delighted at the number of vaccinations we have seen since they started to be given out in the borough in December.

"This new centre will mean that we can vaccinate thousands more residents per week and move closer to some form of normality.

"I encourage all residents to say 'yes' to the vaccine when they are offered it.

"In the meantime, please continue to follow public health guidance, to keep your friends, family, and loved ones safe."
