HELPERS across Ealing are continuing to step up and support those in need during Student Volunteering Week – which started today - as they look back on good work done across the community.

Student Volunteering Week is a national initiative organised by the UK Student Volunteering Network (UKSVN).

The UKSVN and universities across the UK use this week to recognise and celebrate student volunteers and encourage others to take part in activity.

Marking the occasion, students from the University of West London (UWL) are taking part in a national Commonwealth Games of Volunteering, micro-volunteering activities online and continue to offer help in the parts of the community where it is most needed.

UWL Volunteering and Civic Engagement Service team also has a longstanding partnership with Hounslow FoodBox where students regularly get stuck in sorting donations and preparing food parcels to be delivered to families in need.

Over the past two years, more than 30 UWL students have offered upwards of 100 hours of volunteering time to the charity and will this month continue to offer support to those hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mariana Vieira da Rocha, UWL's Volunteering and Civic Engagement Manager, said: "The FoodBox is just one of the volunteering opportunities we have available and it's really inspiring to see students supporting the crucial the work the volunteer team does.

"We are only glad to be able to help offer an extra pair of hands when we can during this pandemic."
