A 28-year-old man has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, one in Ealing and one in Birmingham, after setting two people on fire.

Mohammed Abbkr, aged 28 from Edgbaston in Birmingham, has been remanded to appear at Coventry Magistrates Court on Thursday 23rd March after being charged with having tried to set two men alight, on 27th February and 20th March.

Abbkr is alleged to have sprayed a substance on two men before setting them alight, first in Ealing last month and then in Birmingham on Monday.

The Metropolitan Police had been searching for a man and released photos of them after an 82-year-old man outside the West London Islamic Centre on Monday 27th February.

Then on Monday 20th March, a man was walking home from Dudley Road mosque before being approached by another man, who sprayed his jacket with an unknown substance before setting it alight.

West Midlands Police had said they were exploring a potential link between the incidents and this news confirms their suspicions.

This has been a joint investigation between West Midlands Police, Counter Terrorism Policing and the Metropolitan Police to find out there was a link between the two incidents.

West Midlands Police are still requesting any CCTV, ring doorbell footage, or video footage of the incident.

Anyone with information has been asked to get in touch on 101 or alternatively, get in touch via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
