A new cycle route connecting Chiswick, Acton Central, and North Acton has been launched by Transport for London on Friday 24th March.
The new four-kilometre Cycleway 49 through Hounslow and Ealing has been launched by TfL, to go along with the existing work being done by Ealing Council and TfL to improve cycling and walking infrastructure in the borough.
This new cycle route has connected existing cycling routes, adding to route C9 which goes from Hammersmith Bridge to Kew Bridge, C27 from East Acton to Walthamstow, and C34 from North Acton to Wood Lane.
Councillor Deirdre Costigan, Ealing Council cabinet member for climate action comments: "It's fantastic that we've been able to better connect Ealing to the rest of the capital with this new cycleway.
"I'm delighted that cycling on the route has already increased by a whopping 300% between 2019 and 2021.
"Our decision to make Fishers Lane a dedicated cycling, walking and bus route has been central to delivering this new cycle route, along with a number of additional cycle crossings, widening the entrance to Southfields Rec and improved cycle signage.
"We are committed to invest at least £10million to increase cycling and walking in Ealing, creating more cycle lanes and space for active travel.
"This not only supports our residents to get active, but also helps to improve air quality and reduce harmful emissions from unnecessary car journeys."
The establishment of this route means that 124,000 more Londoners live within 400 metres of a cycle route.
