AS London's lockdown measures have eased, the London Bus Museum has announced it will be going ahead with the historical 'Route 65 Running Day' event.

The event, which will take place on Sunday, April 11, will comprise of two parts, the first being a free bus service from Ealing to Leatherhead and the second will be a road run with historic vehicles travelling along the 65-bus route.

The London Bus Museum hopes visitors attending the event will spend some of their time travelling on the buses, but also photographing and watching the buses from the scenic parts of the route.

The buses used on the day for transporting passengers will be both current and older historical models.

Interest from bus owners has been strong, with the London Bus Museum expecting to have 25 buses in service on Route 65, of which 20 will be over 40 years old.

London Bus Museum Treasurer, Peter Osborn, told Nub News: "Route 65 has been a link southwards for the people of Ealing ever since the route was introduced in 1914, and has always been a busy and well-used route, connecting them with Brentford, Kew, Richmond, Kingston and points south.

"Londoners use their buses more than other people around the country and many of us grew up with buses like the ones that will be used in our event.

"I am looking forward to seeing local people out on the streets and the smiles on their faces when they see an old bus coming along.

"Museums are important, but nothing beats taking our transport heritage out on the streets for which it was designed."

The historical 65 bus route event will be held on Sunday, April 11 from 10am-5pm.

The free bus service will be subject to COVID-19 measures.
