The ideal candidate will have:

• A degree or diploma in environmental health.

• Be a qualified Environmental Health Officer eligible for registration with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB). Any offer will be subject to confirmation of EHORB registration.

• A minimum of 10 core hours CPD gained in the past year.

You must also be able to show that you possess:

• Ability to investigate a wide variety of food safety and health and safety matters.

• Excellent communication, teamwork and workload management skills.

• Driven to provide world class customer service.

• An excellent level of attention to detail.

• A solution focussed approach.

Purpose of the role:

• To discharge the Council's statutory and non-statutory functions as well as it's related strategies and policies with regard to food safety and workplace safety, health and welfare by carrying out official food controls and other intervention with a focus on complex premises.

• Take the lead role in the management and organisation of all EU approved premises, manufacturers and premises with the specialist processes in the borough and to provide training and guidance to less experienced officers in the team when a need is identified.

• Take the lead role in the commercialisation of the Food Safety team, this will include the management of primary authority partnerships, charging businesses for intervention, exploring other income streams and implement new policies accordingly.

• To represent the food safety team at sector specific training and meetings.

• To take the lead and act as a senior officer within the team using your substantial experience in food and workplace safety matters on cases and projects as well as support team leaders and provide assistance to other officers within the team. This will include helping other officers develop their own competency and understanding of food and safety matters as well as ensuring your own continuing professional development and taking the lead in activities in the team.

• To take a lead on establishing the best way for businesses to achieve compliance across the borough year on year, with a focus on analysing previous years' data and identifying the need for different types of intervention to gain compliance, responsible for implementation of new initiatives with support of regulatory services officer and team leaders.

• Respond to and where necessary investigate and report upon complaints and requests for service when of a complex nature in relation to food safety and workplace safety, health and welfare issues. Where necessary liaising with the relevant external agencies including the Food Standards Agency (FSA), Health & Safety Executive (HSE), Public Health England etc.

• Investigate reported infectious disease complaints and notifications when of a complex nature.

• Work collaboratively with other teams and departments towards achieving the Council's strategic objectives when the matter in hand is complex or of a sensitive nature.

The role is full-time, with a yearly salary of £40,869-£42,855.
