Lidl GB has confirmed plans for a new store in Brentford, High Street after completing the lease for the site previously occupied by Morrisons.
The supermarket chain has today confirmed that it has submitted a planning application to Hounslow Council to bring a 1,430m2, store to Brentford with housing association and developer, L&Q.
Lidl say the plans represent a multi-million-pound investment and will provide those living in the area with access to the discounter's 'high quality, best-value products.'
The proposals would create up to 40 new jobs, which following its third pay rise in 12 months, would see colleagues receiving one of the highest rates of pay in the sector.
According to jobs website Indeed, the average Lidl customer assistant can earn approximately £12.15 per hour pay in London.
Plans also outline customer toilets with baby changing facilities, alongside parking for both cars and bicycles.
Grant Shulton, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, commented: "We know how much those living in the area value having a supermarket on this site, so we're delighted to confirm our plans for a Lidl in Brentford.
"If planning permission is granted it would mark a multi-million-pound investment, whilst providing the community with easy access to our high quality, affordable products."
In the capital alone, the discounter overtook Asda to become the third-largest supermarket last year.
Building on this momentum, Lidl recently revealed a wish list of locations for new stores in London, from Camden to Clapham and Shoreditch to Notting Hill.
This follows plans to open hundreds of new stores across the country, including locations in Fulham, Hoxton, and Canning Town.
Angie Hooper, New Business Director at L&Q, said: "We are very pleased to welcome Lidl on site at our Brentford High Street development scheme.
"At L&Q we are not just in the business of building homes, but also ensuring our communities are thriving, so we are very excited about the local opportunities for investment and employment, as well as filing the gap previously left by Morrisons."
