The Liberal Democrats have been the official opposition in Ealing since the May 2022 local elections when they unseated the Conservatives and are challenging Labour's huge majority.

During their time in opposition, the Liberal Democrats have delivered on key themes to Make Ealing Clean and Safe, ensure Ealing has a better Planning system and Caring for residents. We have done this by Listening to residents. In some of our priority areas the main successes are as follows:

Make Ealing Clean and Safe:

  • Reversing the Council's streetlight dimming policy.
  • Leading the Save Warren Farm campaign and helping to organise the 2,500 rally outside the Town Hall.
  • Working with LagerCan to help clean up Ealing.
  • Fixing potholes by getting local streets resurfaced.
  • Getting illegally parked cars removed.
  • Tackling blocked drains which are causing flooding in Ealing.
  • Working with the Council to push them to clear the backlog of tree maintenance work.

Better planning system and housing:

  • Getting the Council to reemploy a Conservation Officer.
  • Pushing the Council to cancel plans to demolish Perceval House.
  • Exposed the Council's poor record of Housing repairs and have agreements for them to make improvements.
  • Highlighting the Council's lack of effective consultation on its Local Plan.
  • Fighting to keep protected status for Metropolitan Open Land

Caring for people:

  • Supporting vulnerable residents with the cost-of-living crisis.
  • Campaigning for the Young Adult Centre in Southall to be saved

Councillor Gary Malcolm, Liberal Democrat Leader of the Opposition said: "Liberal Democrats have been effective in challenging Labour who appear to be more interested in their own agenda and waving through their own decisions than listening to the people or encouraging discussion. They have the same old mantras: new tall buildings at any price embodied carbon and concreting over green space, appear to consult but not listen and then wave everything through, destroy Warren Farm. It is the Liberal Democrats who are listening to the communities across Ealing and delivering change."
