EALING, along with the rest of the country is mourning the death of Prince Philip, who passed away earlier today at Windsor Castle, at the age of 99.

A statement from Buckingham Palace reads: "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

"The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss."

Prince Philip had been married to the Queen for 73 years.

Boris Johnson offered some parting words in a televised speech: "We mourn today with Her Majesty the Queen.

"We offer our condolences to her, to her family.

"And we give thanks, as a nation, and a kingdom, for the extraordinary life and work of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh."

Ealing Council has also paid its respects to Prince Philip following the announcement of his passing.

Mayor of Ealing, cllr Dr Abdullah Gulaid said: "On behalf of the residents of Ealing, I wish to offer condolences to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Royal family at this time."

Flags on Ealing's public buildings will be flown at half-mast.

During the period of mourning, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Ealing will not wear chains or robes of office but badges of office will be worn on black neck ribbons.

Ealing MPs have also shared messages following the Palace's announcement.

Ealing Central and Acton MP, Rupa Huq, said: "My heart goes out to the Queen and the whole Royal Family on the sad news of the death of Prince Philip at the age of 99.

"From early memories of sitting in the middle of Pitshanger Lane at a street party to fete the Queen's Silver Jubilee of 1977 to watching The Crown in lockdown via Spitting Image sketches in the 1980s it seemed that the Duke of Edinburgh would always be there.

"It is a sad day for the nation and as such the Labour party has suspended campaigning with immediate effect."

Her fellow Labour MP, Virendra Sharma who represents Ealing Southall, said: "My condolences to HM The Queen, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh was a committed public servant and dedicated to the United Kingdom.

"His support for her Majesty will, I am sure, be missed deeply."
