FOUR garages were destroyed by a fire on The Ridgeway in Acton, yesterday.

The London Fire Brigade were called just after 11pm last night with six fire engines and 40 firefighters needed to tackle the blaze.

Four central garages were destroyed; no injuries were reported.

By 12:42pm the fire was under control.

Sub Officer Robert Poeti, who was at the scene, said: "The fire started outside of the garages and spread inside.

"The garages were full of building materials, which fuelled the fire and made access challenging.

"Crews worked incredibly hard to bring the fire under control.

"Residents in surrounding houses were asked to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke in the area."

Fire crews from Acton, Chiswick, Ealing, Richmond, Southall and Park Royal fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police.
