CONGRATULATIONS to the Ealing team who won a gold medal in the male Hockey at the London Youth Games (LYG) 2021 West Regional Hub Day on Saturday 28 August.

The team finished in first place, beating Harrow in the final via a penalty shootout.

Ealing's female Hockey team won silver, finishing behind Westminster who won gold, and ahead of host borough Hillingdon who claimed bronze.

While in the Netball competition Ealing's team won bronze, with only a goal difference separating them and silver medallists Hillingdon.

Ealing's Football team finished in sixth place but were presented with the Respect The Games Award for their sportsmanship.

Boroughs nominated each other for the team that best exemplified the London Youth Games values of Fairness, Ambition, Inclusion and Respect.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Ealing Cllr Munir Ahmed.

Cllr Munir Ahmed said: "It's been a brilliant day, I've enjoyed coming here and watching the London Youth Games. It has a huge impact on the health and wellbeing of children.

"After 15 months of lockdown, it's important that youngsters come out and socialise and play these games.

"It's been a pleasure encouraging my borough teams. I had the pleasure and honour of watching our netball team win bronze, our boys hockey team win gold and our girls hockey team win silver, so it has been a brilliant result for Ealing."

John Burton, head of operations and events at LYG, who attended the games, said: "There was a really great atmosphere, the team managers and parents involved with the sport really brought an exciting vibe and it's so good to see young people back and seeing everyone all come together.

"We are very fortunate to have some great partners and funding and they are able to give the young people a memorable token of their participation in the game."

Hefty gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to each player.

There will be two more regional events taking place this year, the next being the East hub day at Redbridge sport centre, 11 - 12 September, and then the Central Hub event at Barnes Elms sport centre, 18 - 19 September.
