THE University of West London (UWL) has been named as a winner in this year's Levelling Up Universities awards.

The awards celebrate the work of universities across the country which work to boost social growth and showcase opportunities for all.

UWL's Fresh Minds for Business Programme won the prize for the Extending Enterprise category, for its work in bringing students and businesses in the region together, as well as narrowing the BAME attainment gap to a record low of 0.8%.

The scheme was launched two years ago by UWL's Claude Littner Business School and offers a collaborative space for students and businesses to work together and built success.

It helps bring mutual benefits for learners to gain experience and at the same time for employers to develop new ideas and improve growth.

Professor Anthony Woodman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at UWL, said: "This award recognises everything we are doing to revolutionise education with learning tailored to students' needs.

"The impact on our students' aspiration and achievement has been astounding, particularly for those from BAME backgrounds, and we are incredibly proud of the impact this is having locally through our commitment as an engine of growth in the region."
