A crowdfunding page set up for the family of Ania Jedrkowiak has raised more than £2,000 in under a week – ten times the target hoped for.

The 21-year-old University of West London student was returning home from a shift at Las Iguanas in South Ealing when she was murdered in an alleyway off Church Gardens.

Colleagues and friends Ania worked with at the recently opened Latin American bar and restaurant who organised a GoFundMe page last week hoped to raise £200 for her family.

Donations have flooded in and at time of writing, in a response that indicates the extent to which Ania's murder has shocked the local community, total £2,217.

Ania was walking home from work with a friend when she was attacked in Robert's Alley shortly after midnight on May 17.

She died at the scene from multiple stab injuries.

A 29-year-old man has been charged with her murder and remains in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, the senior investigating officer, said: "Ania's life was taken in the most tragic of circumstances and her family are understandably completely devastated by what has happened.

"My team of detectives have already made significant progress, however I believe there may be people with information who we have not yet spoken to and I am keen to speak with them as soon as possible."

Police continue to appeal for witnesses and ask that anyone with information on the case call 101 or, to do so anonymously with Crimestoppers, 0800 555 111. The case reference is 77/17MAY.
