TWO brothers from Ealing have been inspired by the life and actions of Captain Sir Tom Moore and have started their own fundraising for the NHS.

Eight-year-old Rio and four-year-old Noah from Northfields have been running every day since the start of January and have raised over £800 in the process through their Just Giving page.

Their mother, Yuko Satoh told Nub News: "They saw Captain Tom's fundraising efforts during the first lockdown and were very impressed.

"We thought that if there was to be another lockdown where schools were shut, it would be a good idea for the boys to learn about helping others by working hard.

"Also having a goal they could work towards would help keep them motivated and focused."

They set an original target of £500 but have smashed through that and are now aiming to raise as much money as they can until schools reopen.

The two brothers started by doing practice runs during the first two weeks, around one kilometre in length, but since then have steadily increased their distance, now running upwards of three kilometres consistently.

"Over the weekend they ran four kilometres, which is their personal best, I'm so impressed," added their mother.

So far they have run a total of 77 kilometres and their aim is to reach 100 by the end of this month.

Satoh has been joining her sons on the runs and said: "This is the first time in my life I've been running consistently pretty much every day.

"It's really good that they're running together because if one of them is struggling a bit more for whatever reason, the other will help make sure they complete their goal.

"Usually Noah who's still quite young will get tired half way through and Rio will try and help him by holding his hand, or by playing running games.

"Some days have been tough, especially when it's as cold as it's been this week, but they've made a pledge and they're intent on sticking to it."

The youngsters are still as excited today, as they were on the first day a donation came in.

Satoh said: "They're perfectly aware that people are donating their hard-earned money and they're very grateful for everything."

The boys were sad to hear that Captain Tom passed away last week but will continue to honour him through their actions.

"We are very sad to hear that Captain Tom passed away but we will keep doing our best also in honour of him," said their mother.
