The London Youth Games (LYG) are putting disabled young Londoners front and centre this year with their new 'Virtual Inclusive Games'.

Following the success of their summer Virtual Games, which attracted over 40,000 during the first Lockdown, LYG are now featuring inclusive challenges set by young disabled people.

Participants will be encouraged to set, film, complete and share sport-related challenges as part of the LYG Virtual Inclusive Games – an eight-week virtual challenge series that launched on Tuesday February 9.

The competition is open to all young Londoners but aims to specifically raise awareness of the importance of disabled people remaining active during the pandemic.

LYG CEO, Andy Dalby-Welsh said that the games 'come at a critical time for young disabled Londoners'.

According to Activity Alliance's 'Annual Disability and Activity Survey', twice as many disabled people feel that coronavirus has greatly reduced their ability to do physical activity compared to non-disabled people, which can lead to a deterioration in both physical and mental well-being.

This new project takes the 'sport is a right for all' approach and aims to celebrate the achievements of young disabled people, whilst providing fun and inclusive opportunities to improve the physical and mental health of all competitive young Londoners.

From this week, the LYG Virtual Inclusive Games will run for eight weeks, with a new challenge released every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 9am.

Young people will be representing their boroughs, who will receive points based on participation numbers.

That's where you come in!

To participate, simply complete the challenges and submit your scores via the LGY website to earn points for Ealing Borough.

A leaderboard will be published each week showing the latest borough standings and at the end of the competition, the winning borough (let's make it Ealing) will be announced.

Individual prizes are also up for grabs; those sharing attempts to social media using #ThisIsLYG are in with a chance of winning the weekly MVP award and some Nike swag.

This week kicks off with a series of basketball challenges set by Freya from the London Titans Wheelchair Basketball Club, Cameron a former LYG participant from Southwark, and James and Olivia representing the Richmond Knights Basketball Club.
