ACTON Masjid was set to be the first coronavirus vaccination centre in Acton, as part of a new trial.

Ealing Central and Acton MP, Rupa Huq, has been lobbying Parliament for a vaccination centre in Acton, similar to what her fellow Labour MP, James Murray, did for Greenford.

Last week Ealing Council announced that it would be using the Mosque just off Uxbridge Road in Acton to trial a one-day COVID pop-up vaccination centre at a place of worship.

Residents over the age of 55 were urged to book their appointment for today (March 17).

The link for bookings suddenly stopped working yesterday (March 16) and people took to Facebook to voice their concern as to why they couldn't book.

Hesain Akhadir wrote: "I would like to book for a vaccination tomorrow, I followed your ad but there are no details on proceeding for a booking."

Ealing Nub News Regional Editor, Dimitris Kouimtsidis, went to the Mosque earlier today and was told that the vaccination pop-up centre was cancelled as only four people had booked an appointment.

Rupa Huq MP told Nub News: "I am continuing to urge the Government to establish a permanent vaccination centre in Acton – no community should be left behind.

"I have been pressing this at weekly meetings with ministers including Nadhim Zahawi and Matt Hancock and mentioned it just a week ago in a Parliamentary debate.

"I urge everyone to come forward and take the COVID-19 vaccine when they are offered one."

The nearest vaccination centres for Acton residents are Ealing Town Hall and CP House, both in Ealing Broadway.
