Ealing: Why the sky has been turning orange at nights
Ealing people have been wondering why the skies have been glowing orange in the evenings.
This week, an orange glow in the sky has been seen across the borough, with social media users questioning the cause.
Internet theories have included; light pollution, the northern lights, Crossrail work, aliens or Santa preparing for Christmas.
But this phenomena happened roughly the same time last year with recordings and photos of the orange glow across west London.
People in nearby Twickenham were so alarmed last December they thought the rugby stadium was on fire and the brigade were called out.
But it turned out special lights were being turned on to maintain undersoil heating at sporting venues at nights.
Commenting on the glow last year, Rugby Football Union's head groundsman Jim Buttar said: "This is why! Major light refraction but plenty of warmth to back up the under soil heating.
"A couple of degrees could mean an extra day on the other side!"
It is thought the same thing is happening again. Mystery solved?
