Labour vote against Lib Dems on Acton tip proposal in Ealing Council tax budget debate

AT yesterday's Ealing Council Tax debate, the Liberal Democrat Group moved a budge amendment that would have saved Acton waste and recycling centre on Stirling Road.

The amendment was approved by the council's Finance Officer and is funded by small reductions in the council's marketing budget and a cut to councillors' allowances.

Sadly, the Labour party voted against it so the tip might still close.

Councillor Jon Ball, who spoke in the debate, said: " Liberal Democrats say that closing the Acton waste and recycling centre at Stirling Road makes no sense.

"Residents have not been consulted.

"When closed, people will have to go to the council's Greenford recycling centre which will take more time and cause more pollution.

"The Council admit that people will fly tip.

"1,800 people have signed the Lib Dem petition, so I encourage more residents to sign our petition."

The Lib Dems voted against the Council Tax rise later in the meeting.
