Lewis 'Mighty Oak' Oakford who trains out of BLASTFit in Ealing, is set to fight John Hedges Jr for the Southern Area Cruiserweight Title on Saturday, 6 July at the Copper box Arena.

Both boxers are undefeated and have been making noise in the division, with Oakford enjoying a 5-0 record and Hedges an impressive 9-0 record.

The bout will feature as part of the undercard for the main event between heavyweights, Johnny Fisher and Alen Babic.

On his initial thoughts to the fight announcement, Oakford told Nub News: "I am feeling good about it. It is a fight on the big stage for me to now go and prove myself right and what I know I can do.

"I just need to be the best version of myself and I have no doubt the way we (his team) have been preparing, that we will be."

When commenting on Hedges ability, Mighty Oak shows respect for the fighter's skill, but confesses that he performs best during high stake moments.

"John Hedges is a good boxer, a good highly touted amateur, he says. "I am definitely going to have my hands full but I thrive in this type of environment and pressure.

"As they say, pressure makes diamonds and I've had hostile situations since my debut so this is basically just that but on another level. The hostile environment will fuel me to perform the best that I can."

The cruiserweight continues: "I am really looking forward to it and the open workout will be coming soon. Let's do this!"

Oakford's boxing coach and Ealing personal trainer, Matthew Hirst, says: "I want to thank our manager Steve Goodwin for getting Lewis this opportunity - our first title and televised fight, and to Matchroom for making it happen.

"Lewis is all wrong for John Hedges the opponent. Lewis will be too strong, too quick and too aggressive. This will be the first of many titles for Mighty Oak.

Hirst adds: "The stage couldn't be bigger for Lewis's first televised fight. 7000 people and millions around the world on DAZN.

"Lewis is going to announce himself on the national stage."
