Warren Farm campaigners are calling on Virendra Sharma to engage with them and respond to their letter asking MPs to protect nature in the borough.

On 7th October 2022, Warren Farm Nature Reserve sent an open letter addressed to Ealing MPs Rupa Huq, James Murray, and Virendra Sharma asking them to speak out against then-Prime Minister Liz Truss' plans to scrap environmental areas in favour creating "Investment Zones".

The campaigners have now provided an update to that letter, revealing that Murray has met with them, but they have received no response from Huq or Sharma.

On Twitter, they wrote that due to Warren Farm being a part of his constituency that they would particularly like a response from Sharma.

They said: "We would to make a special plea to Virendra Sharma, Warren Farm falls within your constituency & the vulnerable wildlife facing extinction here, on this already rewilded habitat, deserve your attention. As do your constituents. We would like the opportunity to talk."

The original open letter asked that the MPs demand: nature protections are kept within UK law, government strengthen environmental planning laws, and support the local campaigns Clean Up the River Brent and the Warren Farm Nature Reserve.

They also asked Sharma in particular to withdraw his support for building a sports facility at Warren Farm, a plan which was approved by the Ealing Council cabinet last month.

Ellie Lock responded to the tweet: "As a constituent, this refusal to even speak to Warren Farm is unacceptable. Well done for calling power to account."
