Ealing Nub News aims to support our community, promoting shops, businesses, charities, clubs and sports groups.
We will be profiling some of these businesses and organisations regularly in a feature called 'UP CLOSE in Ealing.'
Today we caught up with Eddy Ku, the Ealing owner of I am me.
When Eddy Ku was younger, his grandmother had dementia and one of his cousins decided to drop out of education in order to care for her.
As a result, helping those suffering with dementia is very dear to Eddy's heart and has led to him set up I am me.
I am me launched in 2019 as part of the University of West London's (UWL) Westmont Enterprise Hub.
Eddy who is a graduate of UWL, teamed up with a fellow student at the time, Ilyes Negadi, and decided to set up I am me, which is an online self-care document for people with dementia.
Eddy told Ealing Nub News: "We exist to ease the communications towards care providers, so that they are well informed with a patient's needs.
"Patients with dementia sometimes get part-time carers and it's not always the same carer every time.
"They usually have a paper case file outlining all the patient's needs, but what I am me offers, is a digital person-centred document instead.
"It's a much quicker and easier way for carers to look after our loved ones, compared with paper documents."
I am me already has more than 600 users on the platform and is free to use, as Eddy wants to limit the use of paper during the coronavirus pandemic.
This isn't the first start-up idea Eddy has had, after reaching the semi-finals of the Mayor's Entrepreneur Scheme in 2019 with an idea for a dementia virtual carer, similar to Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa.
The dementia virtual carer is a project Eddy is also currently working on and it links in with I am me.
Eddy, who is originally from Malaysia but has lived in Ealing for the past six years said: "I am me has two purposes: First it's to help with the lack of digital infrastructure and cut down on the use of paper, and secondly it's to gather data for the virtual carer."
Eddy is happy to support local care homes and carers in Ealing; to get in touch, send him an email at [email protected].
