AN Ealing woman has been spared jail despite being found guilty of bigamy.
According to the Metro, Brinda Kantamaneni, 43, married her lover, Matthew Hall, at Ealing Town Hall in 2017, despite already being married to her husband, Ravi, since 1999.
Brinda and Ravi got married in the US more than two decades ago, before having two children and moving to Ealing.
However, her marriage eventually turned sour, and a court heard that she apparently suffered physical and emotional abuse.
She started a relationship with Matthew who lived only a short walk away and then became pregnant with his child.
They married in October 2017 and managed to keep it a secret for four months, before Ravi eventually found out.
Brinda, who now lives in Guilfdord, faced up to seven years in prison after admitting bigamy, the illegal act of marrying someone while already being married to another person.
But a judge at Isleworth Crown Court refused Ravi's plea for a restraining order and declined to pass a prison sentence.
Brinda was instead given 20 days rehabilitation activity requirement, to complete over a period of two years.
No court costs or compensation were ordered to be paid, apart from a small victim surcharge.
Judge Hannah Duncan said: 'It is clear there is a great deal of bad will from your former husband towards you and I must bear that in mind.
"You were always entitled to leave [your first marriage], but you were forced to stay against your will.
"I refuse to make a restraining order.
"That would be wholly inappropriate.
"I don't see that there is any risk that makes a restraining order necessary.
"You were doing the best you could to make everyone happy.
"You came to make this decision by, for once, putting yourself first, no matter how foolish that decision may have been."
