The Lammas Parkour Park officially opened on Friday 15 September where residents in Ealing can enjoy parkour.

Parkour, also known as free running, is a physical discipline and training method that involves moving quickly and efficiently through urban or natural environments, utilizing acrobatic and athletic techniques to overcome obstacles.

Ealing and parkour professionals, Parkour Generations, collaborated after the community called for a designated parkour facility in the area

Councillor Polly Knewstub, cabinet member for thriving communities believes parkour is a growing sport in the UK and is great to watch, which is why the council delivered in the making of Lammas Parkour Park for the community.

She said: "The opening of this facility is another example of us listening to residents to find out what facilities they would like to see in the borough, and then working with them to make it happen."

James Sutton, Spatial Designer for Parkour Generations explained that The Lammas Parkour Park is "unlike other parkour park" because of its focus on natural elements and materials.

"We worked closely with the council and the local community in creating a brief that met the expectations and concerns of the people.

"Unlike other parkour parks made of concrete and steel, we have created a parkour and movement zone using as many natural elements as possible including a green safety surfacing to be in keeping within the surrounding natural grounds.

"In addition to this, we have used the excavated earth to create raised mounds surrounding the space to reduce noise and offer viewing platforms for parents and spectators."

Above all, James wants beginners and experienced parkour enthusiasts to be able to use the space safely.

He said: "Boulders, wood beams and logs have been positioned in a way that encourages complete beginners and movement enthusiasts to move between them in creative ways, progressing their abilities and confidence as they move around the space.

"Safety is a priority and the space has been designed to meet the national safety standards for its layout and materials.

"We believe the presence of this parkour park will bring value to the local community and those who interact with it."
