A swan was rescued from South Acton train station on Monday after running out of steam on the tracks.
Crowds gathered on the platforms to watch as TfL staff ushered the tired bird out of harm's way as trains waited for the track to clear.
Volunteers from the animal welfare organisation, London Wildlife Protection, came to the scene after a member of the public alerted them to the situation.
London Wildlife Protection volunteer, Saffron Gloyne, said: "TfL were good in this incidence, their staff ushered the bird off the line, but then they left him by a rubbish bin.
"Luckily the person who told us, stayed with the bird and there were other members of the public who stayed too."
Volunteers Ann and Jonathan responded to the call, Ann who came from Wandsworth and Jonathan travelled an hour to help save the swan and take him to a makeshift shelter.
"The bird was a bit poorly and weak and had got confused and landed on the tracks and didn't have the strength to get up," Saffron said.
"The swan was re-habilitated over night with warmth and food to gain back its strength and was released back into a flock yesterday, so it was a happy ending."
Saffron said the organisation see to lots of weak birds, usually due to issues with food shortages and birds being unable to find food sources in London.
They must also work with transport companies regularly to avoid accidents.
"We have to work with them as we can't go clambering onto the tracks, although I've had to talk a few people off who have tried, as people do really care."
She added: "A lot of what we do is based on calls from members of the public, or through Facebook, often when they're let down by other animal rescue groups.
"We are always willing to take any calls across London as we know there will be someone who can get them help."
