A Twitter account which was created to document the construction of Brentford Community Stadium has had to defend its name, following a drone incident at Saturday's Brentford FC match.

The Bees match against the Wolverhampton Wanderers was halted for 15 minutes in the first half after a drone was flown over Brentford Community Stadium.

Players were forced to leave the field until the drone went out of sight and both clubs agreed to restart the match.

Brentford FC Drone Twitter account, @TheBFCDrone, received a new wave of interest during the incident and made sure to set the record straight, stating: "It's not me!!!

"Serious dangerous and illegal drone flying this."

And remarked later that evening: "Thanks for all the message today, However I retired 2 years ago."

One Twitter user commented: "We're just a drone stop in Hounslow" – playing on the well-known phrase of Brentford being, just a 'bus stop in Hounslow'.

BFC Drone Twitter account was set up in 2018 by Brentford FC fan, Trevor Inns, so fans could follow the construction of the Club's new stadium.

Trevor, from Hanwell, has been a Bees supporter for 45 years and brought a drone when it was announced the stadium would be built.

He told Brentford Nub News: "I'm a long-term Brentford supported and brought a drone specifically for that purpose, it was really a service to fans so they could follow the construction of the new stadium.

"So for two years we saw it from beginning to end. I haven't done anything major since."

Trevor shared some of his incredible drone shots with Nub News, which cover the two years from 2018 to 2020 while the stadium was being constructed.

He said he had not flown his drone since the stadium opened, and commented that he was "disappointed" with the actions of Saturday's drone flyer, referring to them as "irresponsible and unlawful".

He added: "I got a license to fly commercially, it's incredibly difficult to fly a drone as there's a lot of a dangerous elements."

According to the Met Police Brentford FC Twitter account, a National Police Air Service helicopter was dispatched following the event to search for the operator, but to no luck.

Police investigations into the incident remain ongoing.

Commenting on the event, a Brentford FC club spokesperson said: "The Brentford v Wolves match was suspended for period of time due to an unauthorised drone flying above the Brentford Community Stadium.

"Given the risks, the match officials and the stadium safety team followed agreed protocols to suspend the game and remove both teams from the pitch.

"The police are now investigating the incident."

The Metropolitan Police stated: "We are aware of unauthorised drone being flown over the Brentford Community Stadium during the Brentford v Wolves match.

"Enquiries are ongoing. There have been no arrests."
