In recognition of World Alzheimer's Month this past September, it's an important time to reflect on the work done by our partners Right at Home Ealing, Hounslow, Hammersmith & Fulham.

This global initiative aims to raise awareness about Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, and Right at Home has been dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by these conditions.

Through the voices of Sanjay Vadhera, Director of Right at Home, Senior carer Ivone Filho, and JM, a valued client, we explore the profound impact of personalised Alzheimer's care guided by trust, quality, compassion, and respect.

Reflecting on his journey with Right at Home, Sanjay explains: "As the director of Right at Home Ealing, Hounslow, Hammersmith & Fulham, my role goes beyond operations—it's about upholding our values in every aspect of care."

Sanjay believes that Alzheimer's affects not only the individual but their entire family, and Right at Home's mission is to support both the clients and their loved ones.

"When families come to us, they are often at a vulnerable time, seeking help for a loved one who is gradually losing their memory," the director adds.

Right at Home's priority is to provide families with peace of mind, knowing their loved ones are in skilled and caring hands.

Each Alzheimer's care plan is uniquely tailored, acknowledging that every person's experience with the disease is different.

Sanjay continues: "We work closely with families to understand the client's background, interests, and needs, allowing us to create a plan that respects the individual as a whole."

The team is trained not only to address the physical needs of clients but also to bring dignity and joy to their lives whenever possible

Ivone Filho, a dedicated carer at Right at Home, has become a trusted companion to JM, a client living with Alzheimer's. Ivone's approach reflects the organisation's commitment to compassion and quality.

"When I work with someone like JM, I prioritise creating a comforting environment," she explains. Alzheimer's can bring uncertainty, so it's essential to provide consistency and reassurance through familiar routines and activities.

The carer has formed a genuine connection with JM, learning his favourite activities and attentively listening to his stories.

"We take walks together, and even if he repeats the same stories, I listen as if it's the first time—because for him, it might be," she says with a smile.

Ivone's approach embodies Right at Home's core value of respect, recognising JM as an individual with a rich life story.

Beyond the extensive training Right at Home provides, Ivone believes it is the compassion and patience carers bring to their roles that truly makes a difference.

While JM cannot speak directly, his family shares the positive impact Right at Home has had on his life.

They reached out to the organisation when they realised JM needed specialised care, and from the start, the Right at Home team worked closely with the family to create a tailored care plan.

JM's daughter expresses her gratitude: "Knowing that my dad is in good hands has been such a relief. Sanjay and his team made us feel involved every step of the way, and Ivone's care has reassured us daily."

With Ivone by his side, JM has found comfort and stability, engaging in activities that bring him joy.

His family shares that he has been more relaxed and content, often smiling as he navigates the challenges of memory loss with the compassionate support of Right at Home.
