The Post Office has announced plans to close 115 Crown Post Offices, potentially including the Northolt branch, leading to job losses.

Most of these post offices are major city centre Crown Post Offices from the company.

The 115 post offices were selected as those which it deemed as the most unprofitable in its 11,500 network of branches.

It is believed that about 1,000 jobs may be lost across the country through these closures, including some in the borough.

At an Ealing Council meeting on Wednesday, 21 Feb 2024, the council proposed that it wanted to keep the Southall Post Office open indicating that it would write to the Post Office HQ and the Government regarding its proposed closure.

However, later on March 6 2024 Post Office closed its King Street, Southall branch.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Connie Hersch, Crime, Communities and Town centres said: "Liberal Democrats say it is very disappointing to see that the Post Office HQ is looking to close Northolt and Southall post offices in our area.

"People have suffered in Acton when the Crown post office closed a number of years ago.

"These are key and essential services for many parts of the borough and we support efforts to keep them open for all members of the community from small business owners to vulnerable individuals and pensioners."
