Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters from the London Fire Brigade (LFB) responded to a fire on Boston Road, Hanwell at a vehicle workshop over the weekend.

The fire, located in the secure parking area of GM Motorserve, saw five vehicles destroyed by the fire and another five heavily damaged at around 4am on Sunday, 10 November.

Part of the workshop and surrounding fencing were also affected by flames, say the LFB.

One person was rescued at the scene by crews using a ladder and there are no reports of any injuries.

Firefighters carried out operations to cool off a number of gas cylinders located at the scene.

Around 50 people from adjacent properties were evacuated by the Brigade and Metropolitan Police Service as a precaution whilst it responded.

The Brigade's Control Room took the first of over 15 calls reporting the fire at 5:04am and crews from Ealing, Southall, Acton and surrounding fire stations were mobilised to the scene.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 7:09am that same day and the incident has forced the business to shut.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service, but GM Motorserve suspects it could have started outside and spread into the workshop.

GM Motorserve manager, Shareif, told Ealing Nub News: "It had nothing to do with the garage (GM Motorserve) as the electrics were checked and they were switched off (before).

"We suspect that a firework from outside or something else triggered the fire but nothing to do from our side.

"It is going to take some time to get the business up and running again. It is very unfortunate...we had a lot of customers and its a big loss of business."
