Bell Square is offering a mini-festival of French and France-based artists and creative companies this August.

The companies are Le Grand Jeté and Collectif Fearless Rabbits and acrobat and choreographer JD Broussé, one half of Nikki & JD and their work can be enjoyed outdoors and free across three weekends, 3, 17 and 31 August.

Bell Square, 3 August 1pm & 3pm

Le Grand Jeté – Répliques

An acrobatic dance battle. Replica is the theme for this amazing duet whose performers defy the law of gravity as they take us on a thrilling journey to show how movement and gesture can be performed when you are either a dancer-acrobat or an acrobat-dancer.

Bell Square, 17 August, 3pm & 7pm

Collectif Fearless Rabbits – RLM (Rapid Life Movement)

RAPID LIFE MOVEMENT R.L.M. is a physical theatre show, where combat, resistance and resilience are driving the transformation of space in search of peace. This performance is supported by Nouvelle Acquitaine and Institut français.

Bell Square, 31 August, 8pm

Nikki & JD - Fireside

The award-winning circus company Nikki & JD in collaboration with Lost Dog create an outdoor show that combines circus, dance, theatre and live music to re-enact the original horror story. Dark, comic and physically dangerous this is a modern re-telling of that ancient epic, Beowulf.

Bell Square presents a high-quality programme that is surprising and often challenging. Many come back week after week, and this year audiences will be able to experience explosive acrobatics, powerful dance, beguiling theatre, highly skilled circus and mesmerising street performance by artists from the UK, Hungary, Belgium, France, Italy, the USA, Spain and Lithuania.

In its tenth year with a high quality, international and accessible programme Bell Square is a powerful reminder of the way story-telling designed for the streets can bring communities and audiences together like nothing else – and it is free to watch.
