Ealing Nub News has reached out to every prospective Hanger Hill ward by-election candidate asking them to introduce themselves to the area and our readers.

In the run up to the by-elections on Thursday, 10 October Ealing Nub News will ask each candidate more questions relating to local issues and topics.

Greg Stafford (Conservative), previously held the seat in Hanger Hill, and was Leader of the Conservative Group until 4 July, when he was elected MP for Farnham and Bordon, in Surrey.

Hanger Hill Ward Candidates:

  • Kate Crossland (The Green Party)
  • Sean Hanrahan (Conservatives)
  • Guneet Singh Malik (Labour Party)
  • Jonathan Mark Oxley (Liberal Democrats)
  • Fabio Pukaj (Reform UK)
  • Wagdi Thabit (Workers Party of Britain)

Jonathan Oxley (Liberal Democrats)

Standing for Liberal Democrats, Jonathan Oxley, said: "I have seen first-hand how hard Liberal Democrat Councillor Athena Zissimos works for residents and I have continued to listen to residents' views in Hanger Hill.

"If elected I will look to improve the lighting in the Mock Tudors, reduce begging on the gyratory and tackle drug dealing in Hanger Hill by working with the local police. Many people I have spoken to say they are fed up with the 'missing in action' Conservatives who are rarely in Hanger Hill and instead looking to become MPs elsewhere."

Fabio Pukaj (Reform UK)

Fabio says he has seen first hand how 'rising knife crime' and 'limited opportunities' have impacted locals (credit: Fabio Pukaj).

Fabio Pukaj, Reform UK candidate for Hanger Hill, said: "When I was 16, I took my first leap into running my own online business. It wasn't just about making money; it was about learning how to truly connect with people and create meaningful opportunities. Alongside this, my summer job as a waiter taught me the grit and resilience needed to push through tough times.

"These experiences have deeply shaped my understanding of how vital opportunities are and sparked a fire in me to help others find their own path to success. Now, at 21, I'm driven by the hope of bringing that same spirit of possibility to Hanger Lane, with a vision of creating a community where everyone can reach their full potential and live their best lives.

"From a young age, I've been connected to Hanger Lane, not just geographically but through the relationships I've built and the time I've spent in the area. My experiences living close by have given me an understanding of what the community needs to thrive. Over the years, I've seen firsthand how local issues like rising crime, limited opportunities, and unnecessary regulations have impacted the daily lives of residents.

"These experiences have inspired me to run as your candidate with Reform UK, with a mission to create meaningful opportunities and build a safer, more prosperous Hanger Lane. I believe that together, we can unlock the full potential of our community, ensuring that it's a place where everyone can feel secure, grow, and succeed."

Kate Crossland (Green Party)

Standing for the Green Party, Kate Crossland, said: I am standing as a Green Candidate to represent the Hanger Hill ward, where I have lived for 15 years.

"In this by-election, we have an opportunity to tell the Council we want to address both the climate crisis and many of the related challenges we face as a society.

"For example, if we insulate our homes properly, we reduce bills as well as reducing our impact on the planet. If we promote sustainable travel, we improve our health through being more active and breathing cleaner air.

"I joined the Green Party because while the changes we need to make sound simple, the reality is they need money and political changes to make them happen. In Hanger Hill I would work to bring meaningful progress by championing energy efficiency and renewable energy schemes- I've been successful in winning some money from a government grant scheme to explore a project in Hanger Hill.

"I'd work with residents to make the changes we need to help make walking and cycling easier, while making sure changes are made fairly. Hanger Hill particularly suffers from poor air quality and this would be a priority.

"As chair of a local Residents Association, I've met regularly with our local Safer Neighbourhood Police team and have a good understanding of the issues around crime and antisocial behaviour in the area.

"I'd continue to work on addressing these, making sure we all feel safe in our homes and on our streets.

"We have some wonderful green spaces across Ealing, including in Hanger Hill, which I would ensure are protected and well cared for.

"These are vital for both physical and mental health. I'm a school governor and ran the Parent-Teacher Association at a local primary school.

"Our schools do amazing things with tight budgets. I'd continue to listen to what they need and advocate for our young people. I also bring transferable skills from my day-job as a Palliative Care Doctor.

"I have a particular interest in communication skills, uncertainty and risk management, and conflict resolution. All useful in being a Councillor! I am honoured to have the privilege of standing for election again."

Guneet Singh Malik (Labour Party)

Guneet Malik says he wants to hold regular surgeries for residents and upgrade the council website (credit: Guneet Malik).

Guneet brings a unique blend of expertise in Product and Policy, with a background that spans from data science to public policy.

Since moving to Ealing and joining the Labour Party, Guneet has demonstrated a keen understanding of local issues and a commitment to representing the borough's rich diversity.

His experience in product management and public policy will provide a 'fresh', data-driven approach to local governance.

If elected, Guneet aims to hold regular surgeries, serve as an effective triaging point for queries, upgrade the council website & services and help deliver the Ealing Labour manifesto.

Other priority areas for Guneet would be to ensure clean streets, tackle fly tipping, work with the police to eliminate car thefts and end anti-social behaviour.

Conservative Party and Workers Party of Britain have been approached for comment.
