A 39-YEAR-OLD man from Brent has been sentenced to five years in prison for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) in West Ealing.

Andre Tucker attacked his victim with a broken bottle on Thursday, June 25 in Deans Gardens.

According to police investigations, Tucker along with his victim and another man were in a park drinking alcohol in the early hours of the morning.

Then, without provocation, Tucker attacked the third man, before smashing a bottle on the floor and using it to slash the victim across the throat and stab him in the armpit and wrist.

The 32-year-old victim managed to escape from the suspect and was spotted by the CCTV Operator at the Ealing Council control room and police were called to investigate.

They arrived minutes later and found the victim with a deep cut to his neck, from which his oesophagus was visible.

He had also sustained a large wound in his left armpit and a large cut on his right wrist.

His wounds were bleeding profusely and the officers immediately began performing first aid, which ended up helping save his life.

The victim was then taken to hospital where he underwent surgery to stop the bleeding and later plastic surgery as well.

Unfortunately, the injuries he sustained will be life changing.

Tucker was arrested later that same day with the help of the CCTV operators who located and identified him as being the suspect of the assault, guiding officers to his location.

Acting Detective Sergeant Reda Imane, West Area CID said: "This was a shocking act of violence that could have cost a man his life.

"My team and I were committed to bringing Andre Tucker to justice.

"I want to praise our uniformed colleagues who rushed to the scene to provide the victim with initial first aid.

"Had it not been for their quick thinking and the brilliant effort of the medics, the victim may have died from his injuries.

"This was also the case with the quick thinking and fast acting CCTV Controller whose actions were key in getting help to the victim."
