A STREET in West Ealing has embraced the Christmas spirit by connecting all the houses with Christmas lights and putting on quite a show.

The residents of St James' Avenue connected all their houses with Christmas lights over the weekend and have set up a spectacular display that attracts onlookers from across the area.

Organiser Andrew Brixey-Williams told Nub News: "Last year we had a big Christmas party outside but this year we obviously couldn't do that due to the pandemic.

"The idea came to me when I visited my son in West Hampstead, with his street having done something similar with light bulbs that change colours.

"I thought, 'what do we need this year', we need unity, connection and togetherness, things that the lights will help bring."

Brixey-Williams coordinated the operation via the street's WhatsApp group.

"Everyone bought into it, even neighbours that I didn't know quite well, they joined in enthusiastically, it was a real team effort.

"We spent last weekend putting them all up, it took about five different pairs of hands and more than six hours," he added.

The lights were officially switched-on on Sunday evening, with a ceremony that included Christmas music and mulled wine.

Brixley-Williams who runs a financial planning firm believes that the light display has touched a few hearts within the community.

"We live on relatively busy road, as people go through to Sainsbury's, but we get many people just stopping and staring at the lights.

"We've even had some people take pictures of themselves in front of the lights, people seem to love it."

You can see the lights every evening from 4:30pm onwards.
