Local engagement in Southfield ward by residents and Liberal Democrats drives forward new road resurfacing schemes.

At Cabinet on Wednesday 29 March 2023, Labour agreed to address several significant pothole issues across the borough's roads after pressure from Liberal Democrat Councillors and petitions by residents. This follows years of poor maintenance from the Labour Council which allowed roads to decay and deteriorate.

The Asphalt Industry Alliance[1] report has revealed that the total number of potholes filled in England and Wales has decreased by 16 per cent from 1.7million reported for the last two years to 1.4million in England and Wales. This is the lowest amount in the last 10 years and is lower than pre pandemic levels in 2020. Below is a list of improvements to be made in wards where there are Liberal Democrat Councillors.

Ward  Road/footway Repair

  • Ealing Common
  •       Lillian Avenue (Gunnersbury Lane to Carberry Avenue)
  •       Popes Lane (Lionel Rd to Olive Rd)
  •       Maple Rd (Olive Rd and Chestnut Rd)
  •       Leopold Rd (Gunnersbury Ave to Uxbridge Rd)
  • Hanger Hill
  •       Winscombe Crescent (Brentham Way to Woodfield Crescent)
  •       Moyne Place (Twyford Abbey Rd)
  • Southfield
  •       South Parade (Fishers Lane to The Avenue)
  •       Church Path (Fletcher Rd to Acton Lane)
  •       Temple Rd (Weston Road to Rothschild Rd)
  •       Fletcher Rd (Acton Lane to Church Path)

Liberal Democrats have been listening to residents' concerns and many have said they want the Council to get the basics done correctly.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Gary Malcolm is pleased that local persistence has paid off in Temple Road (Southfield ward) will now be dealt with following locally led petition delivered to the Mayor of Ealing Council on behalf of residents a few months ago.

Councillor Gary Malcolm, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Opposition, said: "I am pleased to see that local engagement, supported by the Liberal Democrats, through a petition will generate a real and meaningful change in the Southfield ward. We urge other residents to report their concerns to us so we can take up their cause to get improvements made to other streets in the borough."
