LITTER Action Group for Ealing Residents (LAGER Can) has set up a Recycling Challenge and a fundraiser to celebrate Earth Day tomorrow (April 22).

The litter picking group is marking Earth Day by asking as many of its 1,400 members as possible to fill at least one bag with recyclables and put them in their own or a public recycling bin.

And LAGER Can is inviting anyone who is not taking part in the Recycling Challenge to donate to its fundraiser, which is in partnership with Ealing Foodbank.

LAGER Can is happy to 'earn' each donation by cleaning up a messy place suggested by a donor.

The fundraiser has already raised over £1,700 and is a third of the way to its target goal of £5,000.

The money will be split equally with Ealing Foodbank, with LAGER Can using its share to buy items such as trolleys and tools (secateurs, loppers, rakes), and other items to help it continue to fight the fight against littering and flytipping.

The group will also be putting on a Cakes & Curios sale on Ealing Common, near Leopold Road this Saturday (April 24), from 12-2pm, in order to raise more funds.

LAGER Can administrator, Cathy Swift, told Nub News: "We are really pleased to have already raised nearly £2,000 of the £5,000 fundraising target for our Earth Day recycling challenge, especially as we realise people and companies are suffering from 'donation fatigue'.

"This is why we have offered to earn people's donations, 'Bob-a-Job' style.

"If anyone knows of a messy open space, provided we have access, we'll do our best to clear the mess up.

"If anyone would like to take advantage of this offer, they can email [email protected].

"We really don't mind getting our hands dirty.

"And don't forget our Cakes & Curios Sale on Saturday from 12-2pm as well.

"The 'curios' will be various treasures we have found while litter picking - you'd be surprised what we have found."
