A Slimming organisation is adding weight to the claim that franchising can succeed in lean economic times.

Slimming World has reopened their groups across England since August 10.

Whilst the consultants learn to navigate their way through lockdowns and tier changes, the consultants in South West London have been able to support their members throughout this time.

Lisa, a local Consultant said: "Despite the current business climate, Slimming World is growing, we have groups 139 in our North West London District and currently have vacancies in the area for more groups."

Lisa has been a Slimming World franchisee for over twelve years and runs successful groups in Brentford, Hanwell and Kensal Rise.

Lisa said: "Becoming a consultant for Slimming World really was the best decision I ever made, I get real job satisfaction, helping other people change their lives.

And as a fabulous bonus I get to meet celebrities at our annual Awards Ceremony which normally takes place in Birmingham in November - It will be taking place virtually this weekend.

Last year Slimming World celebrated their golden anniversary of being the UK's leading weight loss organisation.

"The whole year was spectacular for consultants and members alike, we even had a double decker golden bus travelling the UK doing cooking demonstrations," Lisa said.

The UK franchise industry employs over 700,000 people a stead growth of 70% over the last decade and is worth more than £70bn a year a growth rate of 50% in the last decade.

Caryl Richards, managing director of Slimming World said: "In the current economic climate, people may be wary about starting up a business, which is why it is so important to choose an option that has a strong structure and excellent training and can be set up in your own area.

"It's also vital to make sure there's room for growth in the business area you're working in."

Caryl said: "The increasing need to tackle obesity and the need for support for the whole family to adopt healthier lifestyles offers huge opportunities for Slimming World consultants based in their local communities."

Consultants are all former members of Slimming World.

The role is part time, with the potential to earn £100-£400 a week for working 10-15 flexible hours.

Training and marketing support is offered with a recognised brand that has been established for over 50 years.

The organisation's head office at Alfreton, Derbyshire provides state of the art support along with centralised marketing and PR, in house magazines and websites plus nutrition and research expertise.

Lisa said: "Purchasing a franchise gave me control and I really enjoy being my own boss.

"What you put in is what you get out and this is a reflection in not only the number of people you can help but also in the financial return."

"It's the best job in the world and one that is hugely rewarding."
