A Greenford man who fled the country while awaiting trial for firearms offences has been extradited back to Britain four years after he went on the run.

Tomasz Mysiak was sentenced to eight years in prison in his absence after he was found guilty of conspiracy to supply a firearm and ammunition.

While awaiting trial in 2018, he failed to appear at court, following which a warrant was issued for his arrest and he was circulated as wanted across European police forces.

Justice almost caught up to Mysiak in 2020 when he was arrested by Polish police, however he escaped custody and again become a wanted man.

The end of the road for the 38-year-old came earlier this year when he was arrested in Amsterdam and extradited to the UK yesterday (Thursday, May 19) where he will appear before Kingston Crown Court today (Friday, May 20).

In 2018 the trial heard how Mysiak has organised the collection and delivery of a handgun and 137 rounds of 0.32 calibre ammunition by mini-cab.

Detectives stopped the vehicle and recovered the weapon and ammunition. The cab driver was unaware what the contents of the package he was transporting had been and was released with no further action.

Officers attended Mysiak's address in Quantock Court, Greenford, where he was arrested on suspicion of supplying a firearm and ammunition. Police recovered more than £4,000 at his address.

A man from Mitcham, Sebastien Hajda, then aged 29, was also charged with conspiracy to supply a firearm and ammunition.

Mysiak and Haida were both convicted at Kingston Crown Court on Wednesday, June 13 and handed eight years in prison. Mysiak was sentenced in his absence.

Detective Constable Paul Hawthorn who led the investigation said; "This case clearly demonstrates that convictions and sentences don't go away, even if the defendant flees the country.

"Working with our policing colleagues in Poland and in Holland, we have tracked Mysiak's movements and he will now face the consequences of his offences.

"It is our ongoing mission to remove lethal weapons from unsafe hands and to put a stop to the activities of those supplying them."
