A Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) could be renewed in Ealing to combat anti-social behaviour around the borough.

The existing PSPO in Ealing introduced in 2019 was designed to address persistent issues in the borough known to the council, police and other local service providers.

Behaviours a PSPO is implemented to tackle typically include street drinking, fly-tipping, littering, verbal abuse, illegal drug use, urinating and spitting.

Under the current PSPO in place in Ealing, police and council officers are empowered to issue fines of £100 to culprits of such behaviours which if left unpaid can increase to up to £1,000.

Ahead of its expiration in September Ealing Council hopes residents will engage in a consultation process to help determine whether or not the PSPO should be renewed.

In an online survey, anyone with links to Ealing is asked to give their opinion on the scale of anti-social behaviour in the borough, the types of behaviours witnessed and what detrimental impact they have on a person's quality of life in Ealing.

It also asks specific questions about PSPO requirements and prohibitions that affect Ealing's town centres: Acton, Ealing, Greenford, Hanwell, Southall and West Ealing.

Council leader Peter Mason said: "Keeping our communities safe and tackling anti-social behaviour is one of our top priorities. Healthy communities cannot thrive if they are blighted by the actions of a few selfish people who won't respect our borough and those who live here."

Councillor Raza, the council's cabinet member for tackling inequalities, added: "We always welcome the opportunity to hear from residents and visitors of the borough to let their views be heard. This, ultimately, gives the council a greater understanding to improve the lives of our residents."

You can complete the survey online between now and September 6.
