EALING'S Running Mayor, Tom Kerry, is the first person to have completed the Queen of the Suburbs challenge.

The challenge has been named Queen of the Suburbs as Ealing is renowned for having some of the most beautiful green spaces in London.

There are 13 parks in the Borough of Ealing and the challenge encourages its participants to run through all of them.

However, this year it's also open to those outside of the borough too.

Tom told Nub News: "I wanted to get going with the challenge early to help give it some profile and my training had gone well so I thought it would be a good challenge to take on for a Good Friday.

"The challenge in my opinion is not about being first, or the fastest, it's about completing it, having some fun and visiting parks in the borough you've not necessarily been to before.

"I hadn't been to quite a few that were included and I've run in a lot of the Ealing parks!

"The challenge also helped me spread the word about the Running Mayors network."

Although the challenge is primarily aimed at inspiring people to run, people of all abilities and levels are welcome to participate.

He added: "I wanted to run it to enjoy it and walked some of the uphill parts along the way.

"Friday morning turned out to be quite sunny and it was good to take in my surroundings whilst I was running, we're lucky in Ealing to have so many great parks and open spaces.

The most difficult bit was finding my way between Wolf Fields and Elthorne, I took a wrong turning in Southall and ended up running the wrong way for a bit!"

The run is a great way for locals, or those further afield to explore their local areas and Ealing has lots of free beautiful spaces to see.

Tom said: "The challenge is open for the whole of April so people can run it one park at a time, all in one go or anyway in between so the challenge caters for all people.

"Both in this challenge and the one held last September I've visited places I hadn't been to in the borough before and really enjoyed them, so it's a great way of discovering more about the area we live in and lastly it's a great way to kick start running, becoming a more regular part of people's everyday lives.

"Hopefully more people will get the running bug and build up to entering the half marathon in September and other events that the Ealing Half Marathon team put on."
