Prayers for the Stolen

From the producers of Roma, Prayers For The Stolen is the feature debut from Mexican-El Salvadoran filmmaker Tatiana Huezo, and tells a powerful story of friendship, family and survival. It follows the lives of three girls in the rural village of Guerrero, which is dominated by the violent presence of the local drug trade and the threat of human trafficking.

Told from a unique child's eye perspective, Huezo's film addresses the increasing issues surrounding Mexico's "disappeared" individuals. An important and unforgettable indictment of the hidden evils of an unjust war, this is a blistering depiction of the women living in the crosshairs.

Operation Mincemeat

In 1943, two intelligence officers conceived an ingenious plan called Operation Mincemeat--get a corpse, equip it with secret, but false and misleading, papers concerning an Allied invasion, then drop it off the coast of Spain where German spies would, they hoped, take the bait. Colin Firth and Matthew Macfadyen star as the intelligent officers in this entertaining film.

Murina

Tensions rise between restless teenager Julija and her oppressive father Ante when an old family friend arrives at their Croatian island home. As Ante attempts to broker a life-changing deal, their tranquil yet isolated existence leaves Julija wanting more from this influential visitor, who provides a taste of liberation over a weekend laid bare to desire and violence.

Encanto

Walt Disney's Encanto tells the tale of the Madrigals, an extraordinary family who live in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. Each child has been blessed with a magic gift unique to them—each child except Mirabel. But when the family's home is threatened, Mirabel may be their only hope.

French Impressions: Paris 13th District

French Impressions is an opportunity for those interested in film, especially French film, to watch a movie and discuss it in a discussion led by our resident French film expert, Jon Davies.
