Tributes are being paid to Her Majesty from across the borough for her 70 years of service. Buckingham Palace announced her passing yesterday evening.

The statement said: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

"The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."

During the afternoon members of her close family, including her grandson William, Duke of Cambridge; sons Andrew, Duke of York and Edward, Earl of Wessex (and his wife Countess Sophie), arrived at the castle in Aberdeenshire.

The four travelled together in a vehicle driven by William. Her grandson, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, was reported to be travelling to Balmoral alone. Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, together with Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, were already at Balmoral.

The Mayor of Ealing, Cllr Mohinder Midha, said:

"On behalf of all the residents of Ealing, I wish to offer our condolences to His Majesty, King Charles III and members of the Royal family on the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

"Flags on Ealing's public buildings will be flown at half-mast and a book of condolence has been opened at Ealing Town Hall for those who wish to send messages of condolence. An online book of condolence has also been opened by the Royal Household.

"On Sunday, 11 September, at 2pm the Proclamation of Accession will be made on the steps of Ealing Town Hall. Apart from myself, this will be attended by the Deputy Lieutenant, leader of the council, councillors, senior council officers and others in observing the proclamation.

"More details on the timetable for the period of mourning will be announced in due course."

Steve House, Acting Commissioner of Ealing Police, said:

"Tonight, every member of the Metropolitan Police Service joins the nation in mourning the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

"On their behalf, I send my deepest condolences to the entire Royal Family, as well as those who have been affected by Her Majesty's death.

"I, like every other officer in the Metropolitan Police Service, swore an oath to Her Majesty and for us all that is a great honour.

"I know Her Majesty's lifetime to public service will continue to inspire generations of people to come."

Rupa Huq, MP for Ealing and Acton said:

"With period of national mourning underway, the passing of the Queen has saddened us all. But we must also celebrate her extraordinary, inspirational life. "End of an era" cannot sum up her 70 year reign and 96 year life of service. God save the King."

St Peter's Ealing said:

"The Parish of St Peter's, Ealing wishes to express our deepest sorrow at the news of the death of our sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We shall pray for the repose of her soul and for her grieving family. May she rest in peace and rise in glory. Amen."
