Ealing taxi driver offering fixed priced wait and return journeys to COVID-19 vaccine centres
AN Ealing based taxi driver is offering fixed priced wait and return journeys to COVID-19 vaccine centres.
Paul Williams from Greenford, has been a black cab taxi driver for 11 years and has also set up Cabital City Tours, offering sightseeing tours of London.
He told Nub News: "Taxis are one of the safest forms of transport during the pandemic, especially with the wheelchair access provided and I'm surprised the Government hasn't tried to mobilise black cabs to offer the most vulnerable in society a transport system."
Ever since the first national lockdown in March, business has dropped for Williams and he started to think of alternative ways to continue working.
The idea to offer a fixed priced service for those going to vaccine centres came to him when his neighbour's grandmother needed a lift in order to get the vaccine last week.
The dad-of-two said: "My neighbour's nan is 102 years old and my neighbour asked me if I knew someone who could drive her to get her vaccine and then take her home.
"I said I could do it and everything went really smoothly, so I thought this could be a great way to help others.
"It's very important to get the most vulnerable in society vaccinated and by offering these services, I can do my bit to help."
The taxi is wheelchair accessible and has a step and swivel seat for easier access.
There is also a partition separating the passenger and driver and the interiors are regularly sanitised with an antibacterial agent.
People have already started getting in touch with Williams through word of mouth and business has already seen an upturn.
