A UNIVERSITY of West London (UWL) graduate has been murdered in Pakistan after reportedly turning down two men who had been pressurising her to marry them.

Mayra Zulfiqar, 26, from Feltham, was found dead at a property in the up-market Defence district of Lahore, in the early hours of May 3, after four attackers reportedly barged into a bedroom in the home of a friend she was staying with.

She had travelled to Pakistan for a wedding two months ago and had decided to stay, according to Pakistani newspaper, Dawn.

Police have detained two men for questioning over the death, as they hunt for another two suspects.

Police superintendent, Sidra Khan, told Dawn that Zulfiqar had two bullet wounds, one on her neck and another on her arm, and had bled to death.

Bruises were also found on her right hand and left foot.

The victim's uncle, Mohammad Nazeer, found her body after receiving a phone call from her father in Feltham saying she had been killed.

Nazeer also said that his niece had told him she had become involved in a dispute with two male friends after she had refused their marriage proposals and they had threatened her as a result.

The UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office said in a statement it was supporting the family.

It added: "Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time."
