ROADS flooded across Ealing yesterday afternoon (July 12), following the heavy rain that lasted for hours.

There was lots of traffic out on the roads, with cars moving at a very slow pace due to the adverse weather conditions.

The traffic situation only worsened as some train stations were forced to close down due to flooding, resulting in more people having to rely on their cars or taxis in order to get around.

At around 5:30pm yesterday afternoon, Acton Town station had flooded, and large numbers of people were forced to either walk in the pouring rain or crowd under the bus stop and wait for the E3 bus, with some taking shelter under shop fronts while waiting for their taxis.

At the same time, roads in South Ealing had turned into 'mini-lakes' with sewers overflowing and fountains of water coming out into the middle of the road.

Marc Yonder, an eyewitness on Junction Road told Ealing Nub News: "The main sewer leading west out of Ealing to the Mogden Water Treatment Works exceeded capacity and was fountaining out water into the middle of the road.

"It is a deep sewer so you can imagine the volume and the pressure needed in order to bring that to fountain up and come through a manhole cover."

Another eyewitness, Olga Kay, who was driving along Castlebar Road in Ealing Broadway at around 5pm, told Ealing Nub News that traffic had come to a complete standstill for around half an hour.

She said: "We were stuck in the same spot for about thirty minutes, the rain caused so much flooding that cars were moving at a snail's pace.

"I'm just grateful no one got hurt and we didn't see any accidents."
